List of 37 cities nationwide with exhausted coal resources announced

Not long ago, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and six provinces and cities jointly issued the "Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Surrounding Area Air Pollution Prevention and Control Work Plan in 2017", which clarified the "2+26" Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei air pollution transmission channel city scope. Two cities have designated "No Coal Zones." Coal bans have become normal, and "decoalization" has become the focus of some local governments.

As my country’s basic energy source and an important industrial raw material, coal strongly supports the development of the national economy. Many cities are prospered by coal, such as Ordos known as the "Myth of Coal Capital", Shenmu in Northern Shaanxi, the "Coal Kingdom", and "Coal Iron "Hometown" in Yangquan, Shanxi.

These cities have become enviable high-quality coal kingdoms, and the urban economy has also developed rapidly. However, the excessive development and use of coal for many years has also caused serious damage to the local ecological environment and the exhaustion of resources.

Among the 69 typical resource-exhausted cities in my country, coal cities account for half!

In 2008, 2009, and 2011, the state identified 69 typical resource-exhausted cities (counties, districts) in three batches. Among them: 37 coal cities, 14 non-ferrous metal cities, 6 ferrous metallurgical cities, 3 oil cities, and 9 other cities, involving a total population of 154 million.
